New Design! :: 10/06/02

If you've been here before you'll nottice the site's gotten a partial makeover. I'm not quite done yet. This is a temporary state.

I plan on giving the Patches and Mods their own pages but leaving some of the latest ones on this page in the L & R columns.

And of course this page is still mainly for the latest and greatist news, the Poll (which I need to change the question soon), and the "Dates to Remember" list!

New Coolness!! :: 10/04/02

It's getting closer and closer to that magical gaming time, the Holliday season! That means lots of new games are being or about to be released, and of course it means some will be pushed back to 2003. :( I've added some of these hot games to the "Dates to Remember" section on the left.

The latest tactical shooter from the Rainbow 6 line, Raven Shield, has converted over to the Unreal engine! It is also supposed to have some UI enhancements also. (like automaticly breaching and clearing a room) Then there's Splinter Cell which I don't know what engine it uses, but it's more of a on man special forces game. Kind of like Hitman I think, but hopefully better.

Another bit of tactical shooter news, the SWAT line of games from Sierra has also switched to a new engine, though I think it's another in-house engine.

While I'm not big into MMO games, Star Wars Galaxies is supposed to be out by the end of the year.

And, according to Computer Gaming World, Unreal 2 will make us forget about Halo only being on the Xbox. Sounds good to me :) Stupid Microsoft.

Speaking of Xbox, one of my friends highly recomends Buffy the Vampire Slayer on that platform. I myself don't have an Xbox, so if you do you might want to give it a try.

Twice in a month! :: 9/24/02

Two updates in one month! Woo-hoo! I'm on a roll now. :)

The Unreal 2003 demo released and it's also Gone Gold. It's pretty sweet! Great character physics, nice graphics. I love playing the Bombing Run mission with the instagib mutator turned on! :D

No One Lives Forever 2 full demo.

I've found a great place to download both of these. The nVidia ftp site! ftp://download.nvidia.com/downloads (you should probably use a ftp client to connect and not the browser) They also are broken into 20MB pieces which is nice for dial-up users. Not only that but you can get the latest Detonator drivers too. :)

Expanding! :: 9/03/02

Youch! It's almost been 2 months sense I updated.

There's a couple of new expansions coming out fairly soon you might be interested in. There's one for Morrowind and one for Civilization III! The one for Civ 3 includes mutiplayer and a few extras like a couple new units, maps, play modes (for multi) and a new wonder of the world. Sounds like what they should have released in the first place, though we would have had to wait an extra year or so...

Speaking of Civ 3 the 1.29f patch is out. Grab it! (9.91MB)

Unreal 2003 should be out fairly soon, and maybe Unreal II also! No One Lives Forever 2 should also be out by the holidays. The first one was pretty fun, so hopefully this one will be more of the same, plus some. The demo (~50MB) for NOLF 2 is also out but is fairly big and I don't have a cable modem anymore, so I haven't played it yet.

Check out the Dates to Remember section in the bottom of the left column for the Hitman 2 Demo link!

What's new? :: 7/08/02

I got married, so I haven't updated in a while, but here I am again!

Let's see...what's new? Warcraft III is out! Neverwinter Nights is out! Morrowind it out! out of those three I've only played Morrowind, but it's quite good! (and long) If you are a RPG type gamer you should definitely check it out! I hear NWN is pretty buggy right now so you might want to wait on it.

I also just spotted America's Army at GameSpot. I didn't read anything about it but the screen shot looks good. (tactical shooter) The Magic the Gathering Online demo is also there for download (200+MB!)

Lots of stuff! :: 5/06/02

Counter-Strike 1.4 is out along with Half-Life 1.0.0.9! Get your CS and HL patches from the Shack!

Doom 3 officially announced (plus id has a new web site design)

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind is out. Check all the screens and video of it over at GameSpot! Looks great and is supposed to be huge!

P.S. I'm getting married on the 25th so I probably won't have time to update again till later in June.

UT 2003 Screens! :: 4/01/02

Unreal Tournament 2003 screenshots! Check it! (this isn't the Unreal 2 engine BTW)

Jedi Knight 2 should be in stores soon! (as well as a bunch of new games) Hopefully Counter-Strike: Condition Zero will be out pretty soon also.

Freedom Force! :: 3/30/02

Freedom Force demo is out! Go get it! (w/music 88 MB) (w/o Music 57 MB) It's pretty cool once you get the hang of it

Dungeon Siege has gone gold!

New Games! :: 3/11/02

Ubi Soft released some news about their new Rainbow Six game called Rainbow Six: Raven Shield. They say it's the 3rd one but what about Ghost Recon? I'd count it in that series even though it doesn't have R6 in the title. Anyway, the only real interesting thing in the press release is that it uses the "next-generation Unreal engine". Now if that means the Unreal 2 engine, that rocks! If it means UT big deal, go play the Tactical Ops mod. Upgrading the visual quality of the engine is good though.

Rise of Nations! :: 3/07/02

If you like Civilization or Age of Empires you'll want to keep an eye on Rise of Nations! It's supposed to combine the two and also have multiplayer.

Civ 3 Patch & Demos! :: 3/01/02

The latest Civilization 3 patch is out! Yoink! (7.2 MB)

Get the demo of NASCAR Racing 2002 Season. (56 MB) I downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. Or there's the Magic: the Gathering Online demo (296 MB Yowch!!!)

There's also a interesting but LONG read on Abaondonware at Gamespot.

SWAT: Urban Justice! :: 2/18/02

There's a preview of the next SWAT game from Sierra at GameSpot. It's called SWAT: Urban Justice. Sounds pretty cool. They are letting it get away from strict LAPD SWAT simulation and adding gobs of customizable weapons and they say it'll have multiplayer out of the box. (it's nice they learn) It'll also have a version of Worldcraft so you can edit and make your own missions. There will also be a female model this time around and riot shields!. (again breaking away from LAPD SWAT realism...they have neither) It's supposed to be faster paced also and streamlined more, so go check it out!

Happy New Year! :: 1/15/02
